Spring soccer = Brrr!!!

April 28th, 2012

We’re on our 3rd (or 4th?) week of spring soccer.   Each week the Saturday morning games seem to be getting colder!  We were layered up today, I’m not sure it was 40 degrees.  This week Little Man Mungo participated the most of all games so far!  One quick pout at the very beginning and then he was off and running (and smiling) for the rest of the time.  We went to “Nick and Cathy’s” for breakfast afterwards.

Lousy Mood Mungo

April 23rd, 2012

This past Friday night, Little Man Mungo had a sleepover at Meme and Papa’s with his cousins.  The following day, Saturday, was to be a very busy one for him.  He seemed to be good spirits when we picked him up first thing in the morning to go to his 8AM soccer game.  It didn’t take long for him to turn into Lousy Mood Mungo.  Much of his soccer game looked like

After his soccer game had ended, it was time to bring him to his final dance/creative movement class for the spring semester.  The class had 5 minute performance to show off what they had done during the semester.  Unfortunately it was Lousy Mood Mungo who was in the dance studio.  His class time and performance time looked pretty much like

We were finally able to go home after such a “fun” filled morning.  Little Man Mungo was to have a play date with Cousin K as Aunt B and Cousin P were going to a birthday party for one of Cousin P’s friends.  Things finally started to go OK.  We got to make No Heat Lava Lamps.  The kids called them volcanoes.

So thankful we had a good afternoon!!!

Little Man Mungo had an early bedtime on Saturday night and he fell asleep real quick.

I had a big bump on my head…

April 23rd, 2012

This past Saturday, Ruby starts squirting me with the garden hose as while she is watering her garden.  I start to dash into the garage with Mungo unknowingly on my heals.  I cracked him in the side of the head with the screen door.  The watering quickly stops.  We took him inside to calm him down and wipe away the tears.  Ruby put an icepack on his head.

Sunday morning, I asked Mungo how his head was and did he have a big bump on his head.  He told me, “I had a big bump on my head, but Mommy put the icepack on it so it melted to a small bump.”

I just noticed this posting sitting here unpublished as a draft.  It appears to have been drafted on May 31, 2011.  I guess I’ll publish it.

– Mungo’s Dad

The season of the soccer mom has started

April 10th, 2012

As many/most of you already know, Little Man Mungo has been going to creative movement/dance class at the college for almost 2 years now.  It’s a cheap activity for him to do 10 times each semester.  He’s interacting with kids other than his daycare class and practicing listening to instructions from someone other than his daycare teachers.

This spring we’ve decided to kick his activities up a notch.  The little guy is now involved with soccer.  He’s had 2 practices and 1 game so far.  The general schedule so far seems to be Saturday morning games and Sunday afternoon practices.  We were planning on missing the first 2 games since they were at the same time as his dance class, however the college was closed for the Easter weekend, and we were able to goto his first game.

Soccer games at this age border on chaos.  Fortunately, they are played on a very small field and they play 3 on 3.  They also split the teams up in two groups and played on two fields to keep most everybody playing at once.  I didn’t think to count how many were on each team but there seemed to be at least a couple of kids hanging out on the sidelines so maybe there are 8 or 10 on the team.

They don’t keep any score at the game at this age it is considered a recreational activity and not a sport.  If they had kept score, our team would have been crushed.  One of the kids on the other team clearly had lots of soccer experience.  I’m guessing due to playing with an older brother or sister at home.  There was a 4 or 5 minute span where this kid had scored at least 10 in a row.  His streak was only broken when a team mate of his scored.  Fortunately he got swapped over to the other field at halftime.

I think they played about 15 minutes and then had a halftime snack of oranges and then played another 15 minutes.  Overall the whole game time was about an hour.  There was a short warm-up before the game, then the game itself, and then parting comments and instructions from the coach before leaving.  This week practice will be on Wednesday since Sunday was Easter.

The little guy did better than we were expecting, he ran off the field once or twice to wipe his nose, he ran off the field once to get a drink of water, and he ran and stayed by his mommy’s side only once.  That ended when the ball rolled past him and he went charging out after it.

Here are a couple of game day pictures.

Mungo’s new favorite number?

January 1st, 2012

Finally getting the little guy out of pajamas and into “day” clothes, he tells us that “4″ is one of his favorite numbers. We were a bit confused at first, it used to be 22, then 100. It took us a minute to realize that he’s probably referring to his pants size.

My New Year’s Resolution.

January 1st, 2012

It it my intent to start using this blog again.  I have been posting tidbits about Mungo’s life on Facebook, but I realize that we’ve likely got some non-Facebook users here in Mungoland.  Keep an eye here for more activity.  Who knows, there even may be audio updates again…

Episode 86

February 26th, 2011

I have to apologize for just a long time span between Episodes 85 and 86.  Just to add insult to injury as they say, this is also a short podcast.  It’s just a general rundown of some of the stuff that’s been going on in Mungo’s world.

The sledding was done after dance class in front of the fine arts building on campus.

This one goes quickly.  It’s almost as if there’s a Cliff Notes version of Mungo’s Life.  I’m sure we did more in the past month than I spoke about but this covers the highlights.
