It took all summer, but it’s finally happend.  A couple of weeks ago the department of public works had to dig into the smooooth Airport Road.  Once again, water pipes broke under the roadway and needed fixing.  Winter’s coming.  Snow plows will most likely hit the “repair” and tear the road apart even further.  I’m sure of it.

It’s finally happened, Airport Road has been repaved.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

… and we had steak and sushi for dinner.

(We did have the whole corned beef dinner thing for the past two nights.)

Please don’t rat us out to the Leprechauns!

This morning, I find on the kitchen table, a note from my wife.

It reads:

What happened to the compost bin?

If you don’t see anything funny, I will explain later.

Love me

Obviously this makes me wonder what the heck is she talking about.  I look out the kitchen window into our backyard towards where our compost bin should be.  Much to my surprise I see.

This is smoking contents of our compost bin minus the compost bin itself.  Upon further inspection I see.

The dark green you see there is the melted plastic remains of our compost bin.

My first thought is that I know that a compost pile can generate a bit of heat, but this is ridiculous.  Then I remembered that I cleaned out our wood stove into our ash bucket late yesterday afternoon.  I then dumped the ashes into the compost bin, not something I normally do.  I guess that there was some coals in the ash that still had some heat in them.  We must have had a bit of a small fire in our backyard at sometime, perhaps overnight.  Luckily things are cold and damp in our backyard as the only casualty was the plastic compost bin itself and one plastic hanging planter that was next to bin.

makes me feel like Chicken Little.

The prices just keep dropping, it’s unbelievable.  I never thought we’d see gas below $3.00 per gallon.  Now it’s back to being below $2.00 per gallon.  My sister has said she’s seen $1.71 and we’ve got $1.83 in the area.

The news report today said crude oil is below $50 a barrel.  That’s 1/3 of the price it was back in July.

Supposedly there’s less demand for gas and that’s part of what driving the price drops.  I’m not seeing a noticeable difference in the number of cars on the road and every time a gas station lowers it’s price around here there seem to be a ton of people filling up their tanks on the cheaper gas.
